The lawmaker representing the Rivers East senatorial district, Senator Andrew Uchendu, has told his co-members of the Senate House to consider selling some of their luxurious cars and empower the unemployed youths with the proceeds, so as to reduce crime rate in Nigeria.

We Should Sell Our Cars And Engage Youths With The Proceeds To Reduce Crime Rate- Senator

This statement was made in contribution to the debate on the increasing crime rate in the country, he said unemployment is intensifying insecurity.

“We own three, four, five vehicles and I’m sure we can do much better with two. Our contemporaries in the US, do they own four vehicles on the road?

If we dispose of our two vehicles and use the proceeds to set up a small industry, wouldn’t we be engaging five youths – we will be taking more than five million youth from the highway.

Who are the key drivers of this process, these killings, the youths. They have two vital assets, time and energy. Until our youths are engaged, Mr President, this problem will continue,” he said.
