The Police Division in Lagos State have apprehended a 33-year-old man, Olawale Aderibigbe, using stolen debit cards to plunder victims’ bank account.
Aderibigbe was apprehended on his way to go pick up another debit card from one of his gang members.
“My friend called me that he had another ATM card. I was going there when police arrested me,” he said
Parading the suspect at the command headquarters in Ikeja yesterday, Commissioner Zubairu Muazu said credible intelligence reached the police in January on the activities of a criminal syndicate that focuses on robbing people of their debit cards.
He claimed the suspect confessed to the crime, adding that efforts were on to apprehend fleeing members of the gang.
Explaining how he carries out the criminal act, Aderibigbe said he could withdraw funds from any account as long as the card had a security code
“The security code is what I need. I have software. If I insert the security code, details of the person would come out and the amount the person has in the account. My colleagues and I have made money through this.”
